DDC Poonch holds meet regarding Deworming Day

Regarding observance of Deworming Day on August 10, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner Poonch, Mohammad Harun Malik in his office chamber.
In the meeting, Chief Medical Officer, Poonch discussed in length regarding National Deworming Day, benefits of deworming, benefits of school and Anganwadis Deworming, community awareness and mobilisation, Mop up day, required steps to be followed by the school and anganwadis centre on National Deworming Day and Mop up day before national deworming day recording and reporting.
Pertinently, the main objective of National Deworming Day is to deworm all children between the age of 1 to 19 years at schools and anganwadis centre. This worm infection can cause anemia, malnutrition, impaired physical and mental health of the children, threats study and productivity in later life.
While talking to stakeholders he said, an effective combat programme coupled with comprehensive health education to the children for proper hygiene and necessary precautions at school level and anganwadis centre level would definitely result in drastic reduction in this disease. He further said ‘mass awareness programme’ regarding the benefits of proper hand washing and sanitation can play important role in preventing such diseases and he further added that there are now national guidelines on school based deworming.
