DDC reviews arrangements for Baisakhi Mela

District Development Commissioner Ramesh Kumar today convened a meeting of district and sub-division officers at Sub-Divisional Magistrate office Billawar to finalize arrangements for two day Billawar Baisakhi Mela being celebrated from April 13 and April 14, 2016 at Naaz Ground, Billawar.

DDC, while reviewing the preparedness for the event, called upon the officers and Mela committee to work in coordination for success of the Mela which is gaining popularity with each passing year. He said the Mela plays a significant role in preservation and promotion of local folk art and culture. Promotion of rural sports and culture will be focused on, for which competitions in disciplines like tug of war, volleyball etc have been planned, he added.

He directed officers to ensure displaying of departmental stalls to educate the visitors about the Government schemes and programmes during the two-day event. Pertinently, the DDC has constituted a   3-member committee comprised of ADC Kathua, ACD Kathua and SDM Billawar to plan and identify the cultural events during Mela.

Executive Officer, Billawar Municipality, Ravinder Singh, who has been appointed as Mela Officer, briefed about the steps taken for success of Mela. SDPO, SDM Billawar R.S Charak, DFO Billawar Division, Tehsildar Billawar, SHO Billawar, district and Sub-Division officers attended the meeting.
