Jammu Tawi, October 11
The family of the youth, who had suddenly died yesterday after going through week long treatment of fractured leg at GMC, today staged a protest demonstration against the hospital negligence. The protesters also blocked national highway near Deoli.
According to reports, a youth was brought to Government Medical College and Hospital with fractured leg on October 4, when he met with an accident, but during treatment at the hospital he died. The family members of Rakesh Kumar accused the hospital of giving wrong medicine to the patient, which claimed his life; otherwise, he was scheduled to be discharged on Sunday.
They said that the youth had a fracture in his leg and underwent surgery, after which his condition was improved, but suddenly he died on Saturday.
On Sunday the relatives of the deceased youth along with villagers blocked national highway and raised anti-doctor and anti-hospital slogans. They alleged that the negligence of doctors claimed life of their son. They also demanded action against the accused doctors. However, after the intervention of senior police officers, the protesters dispersed.
Meanwhile, Head of Orthopedic department-Anil Gupta admitted that the youth was about to discharge, when suddenly yesterday he succumbed.
“I don’t know what happen to him, he was about to discharge. All his reports were fine, he had neither any head injury nor any severe infection which could have claimed his life. In medical studies, only abrupt pressure on heart can claim sudden life,” he said and added the body has been sent for post mortem.
However, the principal of the hospital Ganshyam Dev Gupta said that a committee to investigate the case has been constituted. “The body has been sent for post mortem, while as sample for chemical analysis has also been taken by the laboratories,” he said and added what ever has happened with the patient will become black and white once reports will be seen and board of directors will complete their investigation.
