DFCO directs chemists not to sell drugs without prescription

Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) has directed all chemists not to give any drug without the prescription of registered medical practitioner and also maintain prescription register following rampant complaints by people.
The direction came after a patient admitted in LD hospital was given wrong medicine by a chemist located outside LD Hospital.
Taking note of the complaint, the Deputy Controller DFCO formed teams which conducted 245 extensive inspection drives across the valley.
“53 licenses of different violators were suspended and four drug stores were served notices for violating the Act,” an official statement of the DFCO said.
The organistaion directed the chemists not to dispense any drug without the prescription of Registered Medical Practitioner and maintain Prescription register.
The statement appealed the people to demand cash memos at the time of purchase of medicines from chemists.
It also opened helpline numbers, 0194-2495191, 0194-2490038, for people to register any complaint at the office of Deputy Controller’s office.
