Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today chaired a meeting to review the developmental scenario and winter preparedness of Anantnag and Kulgam districts. During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner directed the Chief Engineer PDD to ensure availability of power supply as per schedule. He asked the district administration of Anantnag and Kulgam to coordinate with the PDD to keep a check on power theft.
It was given out that in Anantnag, 130 MW power is being supplied while in Kulgam, 82 MW of power is provided to the consumers. It was said that by upgrading the Kulgam grid station from 40MVA to 70 MVA will improve the power scenario in Anantnag and Kulgam districts.
While reviewing works under R&B sector, the meeting was informed that in Anantnag, 42 bridges are in different stages of execution, out of which 18 bridges shall be completed by March, 2017. While in Kulgam, out of 7 damaged bridges, 3 have been restored and work on rest of bridges is going on under SDRF permanent restoration programme.
It was also said that JKPCC is executing 8 major projects in Anantnag, of which V-block of District Hospital Anantnag and Pushwara Bridge shall be completed by March, 2017. The meeting was told that six major projects including Additional Block district Hospital, Ashmuji Bridge, Shamsipora Bridge are under the execution of JKPCC.
On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner sought a detailed list of the major projects from the DDCs which are yet to be completed owing to the non-availability of funds .The Divisional Commissioner was informed that, the adequate safe drinking water supply is being provided to far flung areas of Anantnag and Kulgam. The Divisional Commissioner directed the PHE Department to devise daily, weekly and monthly roasters to ensure availability of regular drinking water supply to these areas.
The meeting was informed that to increase the water carrying capacity of Veshov, Sandran, Jhelum nallas regular dedging work is being carried out. The Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned for convergence of the dredging work with the Rural Development Department and directed the DDCs and Director RDD to work in unison for smooth dredging work.To oversee the effective implementation of various developmental projects, the Div Com directed the DDCs to constitute teams who will monitor the projects and submit monthly reports regarding the physical performance of the works being carried out.
While reviewing the winter preparedness of Anantnag and Kulgam districts, the Div Com directed the officers to establish control rooms for formulating a coordinated effective response to meet any exigency.The Div Com was informed that adequate snow clearance machines have been kept ready to clear roads in case of heavy snowfall in these districts.With respect to the dumping of the food grains to the inaccessible winter areas, it was given out that in Kulgam, 14900 quintals of rice has been dumped in 55 locations, while as in Anantnag, 14400 quintals of rice has been dumped at 44 locations.The Divisional commissioner was further informed that, in Anantnag, the State Forest Corporation has dumped 1.36 lakh cubic feet of timber against the target of 2.4 lakh cubic feet and 45300 cubic feet against the target of 81500 cubic feet in Kulgam district. Similarly, adequate stock of firewood has been dumped in both these districts.The Divisional Commissioner asked the officers to put in extra efforts to ensure better public delivery system in their respective jurisdictions.
