Earthquake shakes Chenab Valley, Sgr

Doda/Srinagar, April 18
A moderate intensity earthquake shook Bhaderwah and other parts of the Chenab valley today morning , triggering panic among people. Reports said the quake, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale, struck the Chenab belt belt at 10.40 am. However, no report of any casualty or damage to property has been reported. People of Chenab valley are apprehensive of tremors after a study of the US scientists published last year predicted that there is a possibility of major earthquake in J&K. “We are u Contd.  apprehending big trouble as tremors of moderate and low intensity have become a routine in Bhaderwah Valley for some time now. But surprisingly nobody from administration or any of the seismic experts seems to be remotely bothered to locate the exact cause of these local earthquakes,” said a social worker, Raiz Ahmed Najar from Bhaderwah.
Meanwhile, A moderate earthquake rocked Kashmir valley , including summer capital, Srinagar, forcing people to rush out of their homes in panic today. A Meteorological department spokesman said that an earthquake of 5 magnitude on Richter Scale rocked Srinagar and other parts of the valley at around 1042 hrs today. People rushed out of their homes in panic after the tremors which last in few seconds. He said the Epicenter of the tremors were in Ladakh region. There was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property.
