ECB approaches Swann to work with young spinners

Graeme Swann, the former England offspinner, has been approached by the England and Wales Cricket Board for the role of a spin consultant, ESPNcricinforeported on Wednesday (August 10). Swann will be working with young England spinners ahead of the national team’s tour to India later this year.
Swann has been working with BT Sport and BBC since his international retirement in December 2013. However, Peter Such, ECB’s spin coach, approached the 37-year-old to spend some time with England Lions prospects and the Under-19 spinners at Loughborough University.
Considering England’s success in India after 28 years – during the 2012 series – was largely due to the success of their spinners Monty Panesar and Swann himself, the ECB is planning to make use of the latter’s expertise in subcontinental conditions when the senior side travels for a five-match series, following a potential two-match Test series in Bangladesh.
ECB also recently roped in Saqlain Mushtaq, the former Pakistan offspinner, for the ongoing Test series against Pakistan to work with England’s current first- choice spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.
