Our enemies benefit from the hatred between Hindus and Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir. The country will not survive if we leaders do not keep religion and politics away from each other. It would be better if we work to remove the people’s problems irrespective of religion and caste. Former Chief Minister, National Conference President and MP Dr Farooq Abdullah said this while addressing the workers at the party headquarters.
He accused the governments at the Center of using Kashmir Pandits only as vote banks. He said many promises had been made to Kashmiri Pandits, but none had been fulfilled. Problems were created between Kashmiri Pandits and Kashmiri Muslims through vote bank politics. While describing the suffering of Kashmiri Pandits who are facing the brunt of displacement, Dr Farooq Abdullah said those anti-national elements thought that if Pandits were pushed from the valley, Kashmir would become theirs. Still, they could not succeed in their plans.
It is a matter of regret that the government at the Center made many promises during this period, showing the Pandits the dream of returning to Kashmir, but to date, they have not been fulfilled. Due to vote bank politics, the distance between Kashmiri Pandits and Muslim Kashmiris increased. The result of this today is that Pandits cannot decide whether they will stay safe in the valley with the Muslims or not. Dr Abdullah said that unless these misconceptions are removed in our days, Kashmiri Pandits-Kashmiri Muslims cannot live together.
He surrounded the BJP and said that even after coming to the government, he did not work for the Pandits. The situation in Kashmir is still not better. Till the vote bank, politics will not end. Things won’t get better. Dr Abdullah asked why the BJP did not pass the Women’s, Rights Bill? They have 300 members, but they don’t want women to rise and get the same status as men.
