The week long ‘Environment Mela’ started with a theme of ‘Go Green’ by 60 Rashtriya Rifles regiment of army concluded today in Kandi area of Kotranka sub division with a simple but impressive pro-student valedictory function held.
General Officer in Commanding of Reasi based Uniform Force, Rohit Gupta was chief guest in the final function while SSP Rajouri Rajeshwar Singh was guest of honour.
Hundreds of students of college and schools from Kandi, Kotranka, Samote, Budhal and adjoining areas took part in this function who also presented skits and plays revolving around the message of ‘ Go Green ‘.
Army officers while addressing the gathering stated that in the week long drive aimed towards spreading a message of environment conservation, a number of awareness camps were held across Kotranka and Budhal while as many as two thousand saplings of ornamental and various varieties of fruits were planted especially near the educational institutions while students also took pledge to preserve these saplings.
Army also awarded those students on this occasion who participated in different events organised during this week long programme.
Addressing the programme, GOC Uniform Force, Rohit Gupta said that such an initiative by army is aimed towards spreading a message of Go Green and also to aware people about the long lasting effects of deforestation.
SSP Rajouri Rajeshwar Singh while addressing the programme also appreciated the efforts of army and said that such an awareness programme will help to educate people towards environment issues in this far flung area.
