Farmers hold protest against Govt; allege they don’t get adequate rates of basmati to farmers

Angered over the negligent attitude of the Government, the people in Vijaypur today held massive protest demonstration demanding adequate rate to their basmati and other crops by the Government.

Assembled under the leadership of former Minister and JKPCC General Secretary Manjit Singh assembled here and protested, while shouting slogans against the BJP Government in Centre. The protesters were shouting slogans like Wah Re Modi Tera Kamaal, Murga Sasta Mehgani Daal. Agitating farmers alleged the government did not give them proper charges of the crops in comparison to the market rates.

“They purchase crops from them on cheep rates which is insufficient amount. It leads to losses due to which the condition of farmer did not improve and instead, it helps their lives become more miserable,” one of the protesters alleged. Speaking on the occasion, former Minister and JKPCC general secretary Manjit Singh said the Government should give adequate rate of the rice like Basmati and other crops to the farmers and it should not be less then Rs 4000 per quintal. He further demanded compensation of Rs 20 lakhs for those killed in cross border firing of Pak Rangers along the International Border and Rs 10 lakhs for those get wounded in the border firing.

Others who were present during the occasion including Trith Bhagat, Harnam Singh, Pramjeet Singh Pumma, Sarpanch Sham Lal Bhagat, Sarpanch Natha Ram, Romesh Bhagat, Ghar Singh, Vinod Choudhary, Bawa Ditta, Sujaan Singh, Gurnek Singh, Sukhdev Choudhary, Ex-Sarpanch Balwant Singh Nagra, Ex-sarpanch Bachan Singh and others.
