Forester suspended over illegal dumping of timber

A forester was suspended after police raided a timer depot and seized 242 cusec feet of timber which was illegally dumped at another depot in Watergam area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rafiabad, Shabir Ahmad Khan said a police party after receiving specific information raided a depot at Watergam and seized 242cft of timber which was illegally dumped at Watergam depot. He said subsequently a team of Forest Protection Force also reached the spot.
“We have started the investigation as how the timber meant for one depot is smuggled to another depot,” said the SDPO Khan. He said without the involvement of any forest official the huge consignment is not possible to be transported illegally from one depot to another one. “We have started probe and won’t spare anyone involved in the smuggling,” he said.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Langate Handwara said the concerned Forester Athar Parvaiz has violated the rule and he has placed him under suspension. “His role is suspicious as timber was meant for A Zone (Batapora) but it was dumped at C Zone (Watergam),” the DFO said, adding a probe has been initiated into the matter.
