NYCS selects 7 athletes from Kathua
Kathua, December 17
As many as seven athletes, including a girl, have been selected for the zonal trials by the National Yuva Cooperative Society (NYCS) during day-long selection process for GAIL India Speedstar held at District Police Lines (DPL), here today.
Majority of these five athletes have been selected in under-14 category with two in 100 meters and other three in 200 meters category. Selected boys: Under-14: 100 mts: Dileep Kumar (13.04 seconds), Kamal Sinha (12.90 seconds). 200 mts: Sumanyu Jasrotia (27 seconds); Mohd Mutayyib (26.30 seconds).
Other two athletes selected during the trials were
Abhinav Kundal in under-17 year 200 meters (24.08 seconds) and lone girl athlete, Sonali Sharma (under-14, 200 meters under best timing, 34 seconds).
“In all, 908 young athletes, including 205 girls, turned up for the trials held under the guidance of experts. The participating athletes were from district Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi and Samba,” informed District Representative of Kathua, Akshay Bharti.
In the prize distribution function of the day-long activity, Minister for Forests, Lal Singh was chief guest, who presented certificates to those selected athletes and encouraged other participants. The Minister was accompanied by Joint Secretary of the J&K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma; SSP Kathua, Suresh Parihar; president of the Kathua Industries Association, Devinder Verma; Rakesh Gupta and State Representative of the NYCS, Opinder Sharma.
Earlier, in the morning, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Hiranagar, Kuldeep Raj inaugurated the event.
