GCOE, Jammu observes ‘World Environment Day’

NSS unit of Govt. College of education, Jammu observed World Environment Day through series of activities in the college premise. The volunteers carried out a cleanliness, beautification and plantation drive where they planted medicinal plants. Further in another event student volunteers participated in awareness drive to convey the message of “Save environment and Save Life’ by exhibiting handmade posters. Principal of the college Prof. (Dr) Kaushal Smotra took active initiative and provided support to the student volunteers in the drive. In her message she highlighted that the world in under great threat due to the damage and destruction caused to the environment due to the rapid phase of urbanization, accumulation of toxic waste due to heavy industrialization, pollution, deforestation, etc. General healths of people are also experiencing hazardous consequence of this environmental crisis. Its time to rise up at all level and our student youth definitely play a very important role to create mass awareness. She appreciated the effort of the College NSS unit to observe the day as a mark to raise awareness among all to ‘think today so that can give a better tomorrow’. Senior faculty members of the college Prof. Anju Bala, Dr Raj Singh Narania, Prof. C.L. Shivgotra, Dr Mohd Zubair, Dr Anil Verma were present in the occasion. NSS program officer Prof. Ashu Jolly appreciated the team effort of the volunteers and encouraged them for carrying such activities in future in the college and in the community at large.
