Srinagar, April 26
National Conference Wednesday castigated PDP BJP government for using state machinery to target its workers in Chadoora and demanded that the life, property and dignity of political workers, irrespective of their affiliations be secured.
In a statement issued from party headquarters, NC Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar expressed concern and dismay over selective targeting of its workers by the state. “What can explain the fact that our workers, especially those who were polling agents in recently held elections for Srinagar PC, are being harassed by police under one pretext or the other,” he said adding, “A delegation of workers from Kralpora Chadoora had visited the party office with grievances against police. This is absolute highhandedness by authorities wherein our workers are being hounded for no rhyme or reason.
When those who are supposed to be the guardian’s of state and its people resort to such cheap tactics, then we surely are heading towards more chaos and disaster.”
The statement said that the recent times were the worst for political parties and state government is solely responsible for it. “Government is putting its men and machinery to use to crush dissent,” Imran said. He further alleged that the recent targeting of political workers across Kashmir was a testimony to the fact that the ruling coalition has brought dark times back to the political landscape of Kashmir. He also reiterated the demand for a fair and time bound investigation into the attacks and killing of political workers.
