Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU) under the aegis of Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu today launched its one day “Campus Cleanliness Drive” in the University Campus. Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU) is Jammu University’s road map for building a healthier and more sustainable campus with an objective to create environmental consciousness/awareness through student activism and participation. More than 20 GCTF volunteers comprising of representatives from various University departments along with about 85 GCTF volunteers from Department of Environmental Sciences comprising of students, research scholars and faculty members participated in the drive. The members of GCTF-JU collected waste from their respective departments and its periphery in garbage bags and stored it near the department. More than 30 garbage bags were collected from various departments, canteens and lawns of the University which were later on disposed off properly. The GCTF members from the Department of Environmental Sciences were divided into groups in order to ensure the smooth conduct of drive in various teaching departments of the university. They also interacted with the students of these departments and owners of the canteens to sensitize them regarding the importance of segregation and proper disposal of waste. All the canteen owners were requested to install dustbins at accessible places and to ensure periodical cleaning thereof. The drive was organized in the campus to make the campus clean and litter free. The faculty members from Department of Environmental Sciences, who participated in the event included Prof. A.K Raina, Head, Prof. R. K. Rampal, Dr. Piyush Malaviya, Dr. Deepika Slathia and Dr. Meenakshi Khajuria.
