Gupt Ganga Safai Abhiyaan launched at Jandrah

A massive Safai Abiyaan at holy shrine of Devka in Panchayat Halqa Jandrah was taken by the local inhabitants led by Sarpanch Anil Sharma. The cleanliness drive was started as early as 5 A.M on Sunday and continued till after noon. Over 100 people including students, senior citizens, prominent people and local youth participated in this cleanliness drive.
Giving detail about the drive, Anil Sharma, Sarpanch informed that the local people have also decided to continue this cleanliness mission and now afterwards on every following Sunday till August, there shall be similar cleanliness events to clean water bodies like, ponds, wells or even public water tanks.He also thanked the people for supporting his cause of hygiene and said that it would not only help them to clean the water bodies and stop spread of diseases but it would also encourage the younger generation to keep their environment pollution free. Those who were present on the occasion include Rameshwer Singh Jamwal, Ganga Dutt, Chandermoli Sharma, Randhir Singh Jamwal, Yash Pal Singh, Dr Sunil Sharma, Gardhari Lal Sharma, Soga Ram, Beli Ram, ThaKer Dass, Munshi Ram, Karam Chand, Davinder Singh, Govind Singh, Rameshwer Sharma, etc. It is pertinent to mention here that Devka is a holy river also called as Gupt Ganga that has religious significance. Right from Udhampur to Uttarbehni (Purmandal) there are several old temples and pilgrimages at its bank which establish its sacredness and popularity as a pious river. The river Devika is also called the elder sister of the holy river Ganga.
