Hacking of Twitter accounts of Rahul, Cong proves lack of digital safety around us: Cong

New Delhi, December 1
Reacting sharply to the hacking of the Twitter account of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and its official Twitter account, the Congress today said the hacking proves lack of Digital safety in the country.
”Hacking of @OfficeofRG proves lack of Digital safety around each one of us. Every digital info can be accessed, altered, morphed & modified,” AICC media incharge Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted.
The reaction of the Congress came after the official Twitter account of Gandhi was hacked last evening, followed by the hacking of the official Twitter account of the party.
The party’s official Twitter handle was also hacked this morning, barely 12 hours after Gandhi’s account was hacked.
The hackers posted offensive messages on @INCIndia, the official Twitter account of the Conrgess.
The offensive tweets were erased in a matter of minutes and the party posted a new tweet against the government’s demonetisation move.
Reacting to the hacking, Congress leaders said it cast doubts about the cyber security in India and wondered whether the bank accounts of ordinary people can remain safe.
”Those forcing country to adopt online payment overnight, have they taken steps to ensure a/c of ordinary ppl will be immune from hacking?” Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel tweeted.
The party has lodged a formal complaint to the cyber security cell of the Delhi Police.
The complaint was filed by Surjewala, who demanded strict action against those behind the hacking.
Gandhi’s account was hacked around 2045 hrs last night and some messages with profanities were put out, but these were deleted soon thereafter.
