Harrison Ford’s earning for Star Wars is as much as Baahubali’s budget

With its gargantuan takings at the box office, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has made Disney suits very happy. The actor who should be equally happy is Harrison Ford. The returning cast member takes home the galactic pay cheque of $34 million. That makes for a whopping Rs 228 crores. If you want some perspective, the entire budget of Baahubali, India’s most expensive film ever, was Rs 250 crore!

Ford reprises his role as Han Solo in the film and is accompanied by his dependable sidekick, Chewbacca. The 73-year-old star got an upfront $25 million payment and 0.5% share of the film’s gross earnings, which can be an estimated $9 million dollars if the film makes $2 billion at the box office. Ford had got $10,000 for playing Solo in 1977’s Star Wars, which went on to become the highest earner ever after it was released.

In contrast, British newcomers John Boyega and Daisy Ridley got $450,000 for their performances. They will also receive a cut once the film grosses $1bn worldwide. Carrie Fisher, who reprised the role of Princess Leia, got $1.5 million. The fees of Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker again, was not revealed.
