Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, organized a lecture on Holistic Health and Science of Yoga by Dr TR Raina, Former Programme Director, Advanced Yoga Centre, GMC Jammu and presently Administrator, Swami Vivekananda Charity Hospital, Jammu. Dr Raina, an active Yoga instructor, conducted many workshops and lectures on Yoga to make people aware of the bodily functions causing stress. The reasons behind a tense life are the contamination of food, excessive industrialisation, urbanisation, deforestation etc. In his delivery, Dr Raina told that stress is chief among the factors of ailments. Yoga not only liberates us from stress but also recharges us for acting efficiently. He explained that Yoga is basically the union of individual
soul with the cosmic spirit. Through yogic practices we can bring positive changes in our attitude and behavior to nurture and develop altruistic and other human values. He motivated the audience to perform some Yoga activities after him and feel the difference immediately. He narrated the correlation between Science and Spirituality.
The University has planned to conduct a series of events in view of the 2nd International Yoga Day on June 21, 2016. The lecture and demonstration by Dr. Raina is the first one in the sequence. The other events planned include lectures, practice sessions and workshops to benefit the SMVDU community and the people in the vicinity. In this event, a floral welcome to the speaker was offered by Prof V. Verma, Dean, and Faculty of Engineering. Dr Varun Kumar Tripathi, Head, Department of Philosophy and Culture welcomed the speaker and the audience. In the end, Dr Tripathi delivered a vote of thanks to the speaker and the participants.
The participants included employees, students and their family members.
