April 7: The annual fee for the undergraduate courses in Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) will now be hiked two-fold in the upcoming academic session.
The fee will be hiked from Rs 90,000 to Rs 2 lakh,said HRD Ministry officials.
Earlier last month, a proposal for a three-fold hike in annual fees of IITs was approved by an IIT panel.
Another key recommendation the Standing Committee of IIT Council (SCIC) had made was the proposed new entrance examination designed to test the aptitude conducted by a National Authority of Test (NAT) would be held from 2017 onwards.
If the recommendations of the SCIC are accepted, even the fees of foreign students would be raised from the current annual USD 4000 to USD 10,000.
Meanwhile, Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani has promised to waive offcomplete fee for Dalit, physically-challenged and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe students studying in Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) across India
