Fees for physically-challenged students at IITs will be waived, a council headed by Smriti Irani decided, a leading daily reports. In a meeting held on Tuesday the council also decided held off on taking a decision on hiking fees as well.
The council is a top government body comprising of the 16 IITs. A committee had been set up by the council to suggest a solution towards the proposal to hike the fees from Rs 90,000 per annum to Rs 2.5 lakh, report said. According to the report, the proposal of the fee hike had been made by the IIT’s joint admission board’s (JAB).
