Study Report By: Harbans S Nagokay
The bold statement by Jaswant Kour, the mother of Saheed Constable Gurnam Singh, the 26 years young follower of Shaheed Bhagat Singh from RS Pura, made our hearts to cry and surelyconveyed below lines in every India’s mind:
Mother of young martyr ‘BSF-Jawan also toldreporters that Gurnam use to say that; “Mumma, don’t cry if I sacrifice my life for the nation”, and I said I won’t”: with very slow voiced Jaswant Kaur articulated. Gurnam Singh had suffered bullet injuries on his head after Pak Rangers opened sniper fire. Gurnam Singh hailed from Bhaleshar in Magowali area of Arnia (R S Pura) in Jammu district. However, BSF Jammu Frontier IG, DK Upadhyaya has said that there will be no soft hand approach anymore and any and every provocation by Pakistan will be dealt with sternly. But as usual, role of medical staff & facilities at Jammu Medical College, once again gone under shadows of doubts when, Singh’s family alleged that the constable have been denied better treatment.
His family member, Mandeep Singh and Gurjeet Kour, said that while GMC Jammu don’t have special treatments and despite a critical head injury, their brother was not shifted for specialised treatment to a neurological facility outside the state. After death, BSF said it was prepared to provide all assistance to Singh and his family, but went by medical advice regarding the shifting of the injured trooper to a hospital
outside the state.
By all said and done, Young Chap! BSF Jawaan; Gurnam Singh, who was just injured in cross-border firing by Pakistan, finally breathed his last and gone slept for a deep sleep, within huge slogans and pledges of our so-called; ‘MUH-TOR & KARRARA-JAWAB’ combat mêlée.
On the other hand, with deals over USD 12 billion signed between Indian and Russia, including leasing of a second nuclear submarine, Russia hopes to bag more projects as it termed itself as not just a business partner but an “ally” who stood by India in its “darkest hours”.Not so in the recent past, when India was under sanctions, we were pretty much the only partner for India, said Russia. Yet! Russia is eyeing the multi-billion dollar deal for P75-I project of India under which six conventional submarines are to be built with Air Independent Propulsion systems and the next aircraft carrier project besides the deal to jointly develop a fifth generation fighter aircraft.
Asserting that there is no limit to what India and Russia can do together, a top Russian defence official claimed the US and Europeans can never give what Moscow can and has offered.
We are ready not just to deliver most serious weapons, most important weapons but continue to give our state of art technology,” said Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation, an umbrella organisation of 700 hi-tech civilian and military firms.Russia is a friend, an ally and not a business partner. Russia stood by India during its darkest hours. Next year will mark 70 years of our relationship. It is a long time,” he said and noted that Russia had stood by India when it faced sanctions after the 1998 nuclear tests.
Within all such news-stories, US also warned Pakistan by saying that ‘If ISI won’t act, we will destroy terror networks operating in Pakistan’and US will not hesitate to act alone, if required, to disrupt and destroy terror networks operating in the NAPAK country. US also openly declared that Pakistan’s powerful spy agency ISI is not taking action against all terror groups, and told that
the problem is that there are forces within the Pakistani government – specifically in Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence or ISI – that refuse to take similar steps against all the terrorist groups active in Pakistan, tolerating some groups or even worse, Adam Szubin, Acting Under Secretary on Countering the Financing of Terrorism, told a Washington audience. At the end, reports came out that ‘Border Security Force’ will recommend the name of its jawanGurnam Singh, who was instrumental in repulsing a major infiltration bid along the International Border in Kathua sector of Jammu and Kashmir, for the highest gallantry award retrospectively; Additional Director General (ADG) BSF Western Command, Arun Kumar also told reporters that the gallantry award would be a lesser possible award for him as he deserves much more.
