Government of India on Sunday said that it has started the process of construction of concrete bunkers along the International Border (IB).
“The people of border affected due to frequent ceasefire violation in past, to provide them interim relief GoI has decide to construct concert bunkers along the IB,” said Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in PMO, during a press conference in Jammu today.
He said that under first phase of the project, 60 such bunkers would be built in Kathua and Samba districts, sharing border with Pakistan, on which construction has already started.
“These bunkers will be well equipped with a toilet facility and a kitchen,” he said adding that five families (20 members) each can be accommodated in each bunker.
He added with beginning of construction work on bunkers long pending demand of border dwellers has been fulfilled.
Dr Singh further added that New Delhi-funded project would be executed by the state.
