A day-before Mehbooba Mufti is about to be sworn in as the Chief Minister, Opposition leader Omar Abdullah slammed the PDP chief for hypocritically aligning with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), despite latter ignoring all her pre-conditions to form government.
“Mehbooba has agreed to form government in the state, but none of her conditions have been fulfilled by the BJP,” said Omar Abdullah. National Conference leader believes that the internal dissent faced by Mehbooba forced her to once again join coalition with the saffron party, rather than going in for fresh polls. “Mehbooba continues to face tremendous dissension. Most of her MLAs were in favour of government formation with or without her,” he added.
Omar also took to twitter to take a jibe at PDP-BJP alliance stating that he expects leaders of the new alliance in the state to chant “Bharat Mata ki Jai” soon after the oath ceremony on Monday. “I look forward to seeing all the members of PDP-BJP alliance say this as soon as they take their oath tomorrow,” Omar tweeted.
NC President’s comment was a response to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ nationalists remark. Fadnavis at a function in Nagpur had stated that those who oppose chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ have no right to live in the country.
Meanwhile, Dar-ul-uloom Deoband, the top seminary for Sunni Muslims in the subcontinent, had recently issued a ‘Fatwa’ (edict) that Muslims should not chant the slogan as it was against the tenets of Islam.
Mehbooba Mufti is scheduled to take oath of Chief Minister tomorrow in Srinagar. Both PDP and BJP have jointly presented their majority before Governor NN Vohra. The deadlock was created immediately following the death of PDP patriarch and reigning chief minister of the state, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
His demise pushed PDP in a dilemma. There were two opinions prevailing in the party. One set of group wanted to go in for abort the coalition with BJP since the post-poll alliance with saffron party had severely dented the image of PDP in Muslim-dominated Kashmir valley. There was also a feeling that Mufti’s demise would create sympathy wave in their favour.
