But in the recent past, the Spaniard has given hints of coming back to his former self.
If, the recent win of Rafa over his arch-rival Roger Federer in the Indian Premier League (IPTL) is anything to go by, then the 14-time Grand Slam champion is set to make a comeback in the forthcoming season with a bang.
Nadal, who is leading the defending champions Indian Aces, edged out UAE Royals’ Federer 7-4 in an enthralling shootout, winning their set 6-5, as his side notched a 30-19 victory over the UAE Royals in New Delhi.
Former Indian ace Vijay Amritraj also feels that Nadal will make a strong comeback next year.
“Actually, nothing much (has happened to Nadal). He made the world finals in London which means he is the world’s best player … As long as he is healthy he will play unbelievable tennis. He will come back extremely strongly next year, I think,” said Amritraj.
Nadal, who last won a Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in 2014, did not win a major in 2015.
