J-K govt formation: PDP reacts sharply to Ram Madhav’s statement

March 19: Government formation in Jammu & Kashmir seems to have hit a roadblock once again. The PDP on Saturday reacted sharply to BJP general secretary Ram Madhav’s statement regarding government formation, saying the party had not made any fresh demands and was “just asking for implementation of the agenda of alliance”.

Jammu and Kashmir has been under President’s Rule since January 7, the day Mufti Sayeed died. His daughter Mehbooba Mufti sent across a message to the Kashmir valley that she was not going to compromise with BJP just to become chief minister and would not take a decision in a hurry. Last week, however, prior to the PDP’s meeting in Delhi, there were hopes that government formation would take place.

“The agenda of alliance is sacred for us, we have made no fresh demands, but want time-bound implementation of what has already been agreed upon,” said PDP spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar.

“Ram Madhav is a very articulate person, but his choice of words is inappropriate,” he said, adding, “Mufti sahab had taken a bold decision for building trust between the people of Kashmir and rest of India. That’s why we hold the agenda of alliance as sacred. All we wanted is that people should know that it is actually being implemented.”

Madhav had said, “No new demands were acceptable to the BJP.”

Sources said the statement has taken PDP by surprise as the party was hopeful of a positive outcome after the meeting between Mehbooba and Amit Shah in New Delhi.
