Jammu: Heavy rains damage several houses, victims demand compensation

Heavy rainfall from the past couple of days has damaged several houses at Panchayat Sohagni, Block Marh in JAmmu district.

“Around 10 to 15 Kutcha Houses have been damaged due to rainfall in last two days,” told Sarpanch Daljit Singh Manhas while talking to JK Newspoint adding, “the victims have been forced to live in the open sky but the concerned authorities failed to address this genuine issue.

He further told, “one of the affected family is living Panchayat Ghar as heavy rains damaged roof of their house. He demanded that the government, as well as the concerned department, should take cognizance into the matter and provide them financial assistance to the victim families of the Panchayat.”

Meanwhile, a house was also damaged at village Salaher, R.S Pura in which a man was received injuries. The victim told JK Newspoint team that they have applied for the pacca house under the relevant scheme but till date, nothing has been done so far.

Former Panch of the area alleged, “despite six years before several poor families of the village applied for the pacca house at the concerned department but it is unfortunate the government to address misers of the poor masses.

Similarly, several roads were also damaged due to heavy rains across the Jammu region. The roads of Thannamandi area has been affected owing to heavy rainfall and the people of the area demanded the government to look into the matter and after taking the assessment of the loss the administration should restore traffic of the area.
