Jammu People demand naming of Kunjwani Chowk after Baba Banda Singh Bahadur

A protest demonstration was held at Kunjwani Chowk today by the representatives of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk Coordination Committee, Aam-Aadmi Party Youth, for compelling the Government for naming the chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk and also installing the statue of Amar Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. The call was supported by various Sikh organizations and Jathebandis viz DGPC Jammu, Nirvair Social organization. Gurudwara Managements Committee’s.
Comrade Sukhdev Singh Convener of the Committee, Manmohan Singh Member DGPC Jammu, Kulvinder Singh President Gurudwara Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chand Nagar, Jammu, Manjeet Singh Ex-Secretary DGPC, Brig. Rajinder Singh, Manjeet Singh, Jagjot Singh Raina, Senior Leader, Indermindertar Singh, Surinder Singh Shinda, Jagjit Singh, many Gurudwara Management Committee President and Office bearers and from AAP those who attended the dharna Vipul Bali President Aam Aadmi Party Youth Amandeep Singh Vishal Arya, Humanshu Gupta, Anita Gupta, Bilal Khan, Meenu Mahajan, Mehar Singh, Jagmeet Singh Bali and Pardeep Sharma were present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, Comrade Sukhdev Singh condemned the attitude of the Government causing delay to for declaring for announcing the name of chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk, and for not installing the statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Kunjwani Chowk. He demanded that the demand of the community to install statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at the already decided place be immediately full filled without further delay as the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had agreed in principle for installing the statue. Kavinder Gupta speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, had also announced rupees 10 lakh from the Constituency development fund for the same.
Moreover Dr Jitendra Singh Union Minister for State and Minister in PMO and BJP national secretary R P Singh had also supported and also assured that they will definitely take up with the Government but no concrete steps has been taken in this regard so far. The participants also highlighted the biography of the Amar Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
He further announced in future this issue will be taken by the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk Coordination Committee in which non political person, representative of all India Manahas Baradari, and representatives of all the religious NGO’s will be called and taken as members so that a we will jointly fight for the cause.
Vipul Bali said that the demand for naming of Kunjwani Chowk in the name of Amar Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur has already been taken since long and a representation in this regard was also furnished by the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Foundation to the Secretary to Government Housing and Urban development Department J&K and after recommendation the case already been lying with the government. Moreover the All India Manahas Mahasabha vide letter dated 09.02.2015 has also urged the government for granting the approval for naming the Kunjwani chowk in the name of great warrior Baba Banda Singh Bhadur and for installation of statue He condemned the attitude of the government for not granting the approval.
The leaders also said that receiving a recommendation by the ex-Minister on the email of Sonam Wangchuk Shakspo Bakula Foundation Bangalore dated 16.10.2014 the name of road leading to Railway Station in Jammu was named as Kushok Bakul but demand of the community was not considered.
MLA Gandhi Nagar will take up the matter with the government and get the approval for naming of Kunjwani Chowk in the name of Amar Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and installation of statue of
Baba Ji.
