Jammu-Srinagar highway reopens for traffic

March 15: After fresh snowfall and rain prompted partial shutdown of the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway, authorities on Tuesday restored the road for traffic.

“Traffic has been allowed to move on the Jammu-Srinagar highway today morning,” an official of the traffic department told.
“Landslides in the Nasri sector and fresh snowfall in Tunnel and Nowgam areas of Bannihal sector had forced closure of the highwayon Monday evening.”
The over 300 km long road is the lifeline of supplies to the landlocked Kashmir Valley as all essentials of life including foodgrains, medicines, vegetables, petroleum products, are routed into through this road.
