Jammu wins state korfball championship

March 28:District Jammu clinched the 13th Bhai Gurbax Singh State Korfball Championship, organised by the J&K Korfball Association, at Kukernag in district Anantnag.

As per the reports reaching here, from winners Jammu, Basu Chib and Sukhwant Singh scored four goals each while Anshu Sharma added two. From Anantnag, Tariq and Manzoor added four and three goals respectively. Earlier, district Pulwama finished third beating Baramulla 7-3 in the hardliner.

In the title clash, Jammu defeated the host district Anantnag 12-07 (ht-5-1). Chief guest, PDP leader, Bashir Ahmed Anger gave away the winners and runners up trophies as also other individual prizes.

Among others present in the valedictory function were Gulam Nabi Wani, Mohd Shafiq Peer and Major Majeed.

Earlier, district secretary of Anantnag Korfball Association, Jahangir Ahangir welcomed the distinguished guests amidst highlighting of achievements of the Association at the national level. He informed that recently J&K won a bronze medal in the senior national championship held at Nagpur. Three players from Anantnag were part of the state team.
