Jan Akrosh Divas: Cong, YSRCP, Left parties take out rallies

The Opposition YSRCP, Congress and the Left parties took out rallies in the city and other districts as part of Jan Akorosh Divas, being organised in protest against the demonetisation of higher valued currency notes and staged darnas in front of APSRTC bus stations at various districts today.
The Congress activists took out a rally from the Congress office, led by APCC President N Raghuveera Reddy to the Lenin Centre. The CPI took out a rally from its party office to Lenin Centre, where CPI state Secretary A Ramakrishna was arrested for staging darna. Similar protest rallies were taken out in Guntur, Nellore, Ongole, Eluru and Rajahmundry and protests were organised in front of APS RTC bus stations.
YSRCP leaders, including S Udayabhanu, MLA Mustafa and Anantha Venkatarami Reddy, were arrested in various districts.
Despite the Congress’ announcement that it was only a protest, the YSRCP and Left party leaders staged dharnas in front of bus stations at various places and obstructed buses for some time.
All business establishments remained closed for a couple of hours in the morning at Besant road and other commercial areas as political parties took rallies through the busy areas. However, normal life remained unaffected and no untoward incident took place anywhere, police added.
