J&K tourism department helps foreign tourist to recover Rs 3 lakh from borrower

Srinagar Feb 18: Department of tourism Kashmir solved complaint of a foreign tourist Theng Siri Kothwarg, a resident of Thailand, who had lent a loan amount Rs 3 Lakh to his Kashmiri friend Riyaz Ahmed Nengroo.

According to Kothwarg, she had befriended Riyaz Ahmed on Facebook and had also lent Rs 3 lakh to him on his request. She had also visited Kashmir in the year 2016 and stayed at Riyaz’s hotel Himalayan hill resort located at Mavora Phalagam. She demanded her money back from Riyaz which he did not return.

The woman again visited this year seeking money from Riyaz which he didn’t return again. In this regard a video surfaced on the social media in which the woman is seen complaining that accused had not paid her money back. The department of Tourism Kashmir took the cognizance of the matter on February 16 2018 and asked her to register a complaint with Superintendent of Police (SP) Tourism Amarjit Singh.

On the instructions of the Director Tourism Kashmir, the department took necessary action against Riyaz Nengroo who refunded all the money to the foreign woman and  a fine under section u/s 2/28,32 T.T ACT  was also realized from the accused. The tourist woman was satisfied on the action taken by the department. Meanwhile, the department also arranged the airlifting of the body of the Russian skier to Delhi who died on Friday due to avalanche at upper reaches of Gulmarg.
