Srinagar, December 23
The Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women has decided to start a massive campaign in the entire state regarding women’s issues which are otherwise brushed aside as non-issues without even considering the fact that society is at the brink of social degradation.
Besides, the SCW is also contemplating to consult the competent religious authorities to decide on martial disputes like marriage/remarriage, separation and right of women to divorce etc as several such cases are pending disposal in the Commission.
A decision to this regard was taken at the consultative meeting of JKSCW at Srinagar yesterday which was chaired by its chairperson Mrs Nayeema Ahmad Mahjoor and was attended by the panelists including Mrs Nighat Shafi, Chairperson HELP Foundation, Prof Aneesa Shafi, Dr Muslim Jan, Mufti Nasir and Advocate Mohammed Altaf. Mrs Gulzara Masoodi, Member, JKSCW was also present at the meeting.
Mrs Mahjoor informed that the Commission would soon recommend opening de-addiction centres at Jammu/Srinagar besides setting up of counseling centers for destitute women in the entire state.
The Women’s Commission chairperson also informed that the Commission is compiling a list of pellet victims in Kashmir valley and would also talk to victims about rebuilding their lives for which the government will be requested to provide all possible support.
