JMC to launch SLRM pilot project for Jammu City

Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) announced to launch pilot project of sustainable Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM).
This was disclosed by JMC Commissioner Mandeep Kaur in a press conference held today. She said that purpose of this project is waste management as the problem of waste has reached a state of crisis. Mountains of waste accumulated on our wetlands, clouds of smoke from burning it, oceans of waste floating in our rivers and canals, which cannot be ignore any more.
She said that this project is fully concentrated in Ward No 9 at JMC, adding that first of all they have to do mass cleaning in whole Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in all streets of Ward No 9 and create awareness about source segregation, type of organic and inorganic wastes, current disposal system, among the residents, shops office.
Garbage collection will be done twice a day (Morning 7 AM to 9 AM/Evening 4 PM to 6 PM) from each and every residents/commercial shops and finally the waste will be brought to “Integrated Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) Centre for the secondary segregation and for the further processes to convert as income to self sustains the whole project.
She further said that this project would have long term out comes which include systematic waste collection system in residential areas, establishing the principle of cost recovery from waste, practice of converting waste to wealth, creating employment and enterprise opportunities in Green Industry especially among women/men self help groups and education and involvement of youth in general and students in particular in environmental governance.
