JU commemorates birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu in collaboration with National Service Scheme Campus Units organized a symposium on the topic “Political Democracy is incomplete without Social Democracy” at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium.
A guest lecture on the vision of Dr B R Ambedkar was also presented by Professor Devinder Singh from Punjab University, Chandigarh.
Professor Desh Bandhu Gupta, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the chief guest at the valedictory function.
Professor Desh Bandhu Gupta expressed his gladness over organization of such a socially relevant programme as it channelizes the young minds towards progressive thinking. He cited many a few personal examples which highlighted the high frequency of Dr. Ambedkar’s vision.
Earlier in her welcome address, Professor Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare said that Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar was an Indian politician and economist who played a fundamental role in the creation of India’s constitution. As a proponent for widespread human rights in India, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar sought to eliminate India’s caste system. Prof. Jasbir Singh, Chairman Campus NSS Units informed how Dr. Ambedkar played a vital role in making India a unique democratic country.
Twenty students of different colleges and the departments of the University of Jammu participated in this event and paid tributes to Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar through their presentations. Afsaan Farooq from GCW Gandhi Nagar, Tushar Kalsotra from The Law School, JU and Navamani Hans from Department of Zoology, JU stood First, Second and Third respectively. Certificates of Merit were awarded to Sushant Sharma from Department of Zoology, JU and Harsimrat Kour from from GCW Gandhi Nagar. Jagdish Chander and Dr. Anubhav Mathur were the adjudicators for the event.
