The much hyped operation under name and style ‘Sanjeevani’ launched by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to tighten noose over mushrooming of drug peddlers in the state seems confined to the small drug sellers as till date no kingpin has been arrested by the police.
Sources within the police informed that department due to its own inconsistencies and ambiguities failed to catch any major drug peddler or kingpin till yet, thwarted over which the top brass is now considering to primarily focus on their own department for removing their internal loopholes.
If sources are to be believed those at the helm of all the affairs have issued directions to find out all the shortcomings owing to which operation ‘Sanjeevani’ has remained confined to nabbing of small drug peddlers while those who are the whole sellers are still away from its clutches. “Department is even working on odd man’s out formula to make operation ‘Sanjeevani’ a success” sources added.
Relevant to mention here that under initiatives “ANANDD” (Anti-Narcotic & Drugs) under the operation ‘Sanjeevani’ which is being headed by said SP headquarters, R C Kotwal, who is the District Nodal Officer of the team under the direct supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Dr Sunil Gupta, only 19 small drug sellers have been arrested in the last one month besides only 3-kg poppy straw, 16-kg Ganja, 650 grams charas and 6.1-kg has been recovered.
Sources maintained that owing to the Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to Katra on April 19, the department has diverted its entire focus over the security issue but right after it the department will gear up itself to make operation ‘Sanjeevani’ a grand success by nabbing the major kingpins and wholesalers of Drugs and psychotropic substances to protect it from embarrassment among public.
