Kargil records coldest night of season at minus 7.3

The chilly weather conditions have further intensified in Ladakh region, where the border town of Kargil recorded the coldest night of the season so far after the mercury dipped and settled at minus 7.3 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, there was some respite from cold weather conditions in Kashmir valley, which witnessed above normal night temperature though day was chilly due to cloudy sky and winds.
A Met department spokesperson said weather will remain dry in all the three regions, Kashmir valley, Jammu and Ladakh regions, during the next 24 hours.
However, he said there will be rain at isolated places in the Valley for the next two days from November 23. The Kargil recorded the coldest night of the season so far after the mercury dipped and settled at minus 7.3 degree, against minus 6.2 degree recorded yesterday.
The coldest night before this was witnessed on November 19 after mercury recorded was minus 7 degree.     Meanwhile, Leh in Ladakh region was the coldest place in the state after the mercury further dipped and settled at minus 7. 4 degree, against minus 5.6 recorded yesterday. Before this, the coldest night in Leh was recorded on November 18 after the mercury plunged and settled minus 8.2 degree.
After recording the coldest night of the season so far at 0.3 degree yesterday, there was some improvement in the night temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar. The temperature recorded in Srinagar was 1.8 degree, which is about two notches more than normal.
Even though there was improvement in the night temperature in the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, it was still the coldest place in the Valley. Against minus 2.4 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature witnessed was minus 1.6 degree. The lowest night temperature of the season so far recorded in Gulmarg was minus 5.5 degree on November 5.
The world famous health resort of Pahalgam also witnessed some improvement in the night temperature. The temperature recorded in Pahalgam was minus 0.9 degree, against minus 2.3 degree witnessed yesterday.
The spokesperson said that there was a marginal improvement in the night temperature in Quazigund, the gateway to Kashmir valley. Against 0.4 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature was 0.6 degree, which is above normal.
Another health resort of Kokernag and Kupwara in north Kashmir also witnessed improvement in the night temperature. Kokergan recorded 2.2 degree, against 2.4 degree, while Kupwara witnessed 1.1 degree, against 0.5 degree.
