Residents demand full-fledged Railway Station at Hiller Shahabad
Srinagar, January 1
One has to remain under open sky during rain or snow, neither the road nor a waiting hall like facilities are available at Hiller Shahabad railway station which hails in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. People who come from different areas to catch the train suffer a lot as the station lacks basic facilities like drinking water, wash rooms, waiting hall and condition of the road is also bad. Only a small building houses the railway station and people face many problems particularly in rainy season as the station lacks a roof.
There is no station master at the station. Residents say that the station is also a favourite haunt of anti-social elements. They are demanding a full-fledged railway station and appointment of a permanent station master. Security at the station too remains a major concern. There is a no security check at the halt and there is no one to check baggage’s either. There is total lack of seriousness on the part of authority to upgrade the station.
The lack of amenities at the railway station is causing a huge inconvenience to the passengers .It is really frustrating that there is only a single common passenger ticket counter at the railway station. There is no separate counter for females. It seems as if the concerned authorities have completely ignored the safety and comfort of female passengers said Faheem Iqbal, who frequently travels to Srinagar.
A self-sustained railway station which has all the basic facilities and is well connected is what people of Hiller Shahabad want.
