RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday said RSS and BJP were trying to communalise the issue of beef consumption. He said even people who go abroad consume beef.
“BJP and RSS are trying to communalise the issue of beef consumption. Many people eat beef including Hindus who go abroad,” he said.
“People should not eat meat at all, it is a cause of many diseases,” he added.
Meanwhile, Union minister Giriraj Singh threatened of protest if Yadav didn’t take his comment back.
Later, talking to ABP News, Lalu Prasad clarified that beef not only stands for cow’s meat, but also other animals. He took a u-turn saying Hindus don’t eat cow’s meat but beef.
Akhlaque was beaten to death and his 22-year-old son Danish was critically injured by a 200-strong mob which barged into their house on Monday night following rumours that the family had consumed beef. Cow slaughter is banned in Uttar Pradesh.
