The Bhaderwah- Doda highway, connecting this hilly region with rest of the state, was closed on Friday morning when a huge landslide hit the road at Bhala, 15 km from Doda.
Due to the landslide, more than 200 passenger vehicles, LMVs and those carrying essential commodities got stranded on both sides of the damaged stretch.
“The highway got closed at 3.30am today due to landslide and shooting stones near Bhala. The machines have reached the spot and restoration work is going on since 7am. Hopefully the debris will be cleared by afternoon,” said DTI Shabir Ahmed.
“Continuous Shooting stones and sliding of mud are hampering the restoration work. I would like to request people not to risk their lives by trying to cross the shooting stone area under these conditions,” the officer appealed.
