Law of the land is supreme, justice will prevail; Mehbooba on Asifa murder case

Srinagar, March 12

Reiterating that law of the land is supreme and justice will prevail in Asifa rape and murder case, Jammu and Kashmir Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said there is no scope for any misunderstanding about the nature of the investigation or the process being followed.

Without naming coalition partner, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) demand for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case, Mehbooba said some people are creating misgivings about the process in the Kathua case.

Takig to micro-blogging site Twitter Chief Minsiter said “ Some people are creating misgivings about the progress in the Kathua case. There is no scope for any misunderstanding about the nature of the investigation or the process followed.”

She further said that “ The case is being investigated thoroughly by a very competent police authority under the supervision of the highest court of the state. Any rally’s or demonstrations in support of the accused are unethical. The law of the land is supreme & justice will prevail”.

A number of senior BJP leaders, including two ministers in the coalition government, have openly joined Hindu Ekta Manch (EKM) demanding CBI probe alleging that they have no faith in the Crime Branch (CB) of Jammu and Kashmir police investigation. Union minister in the Prime minister Office (PMO) Dr Jitender Singh also said that government should also listen to the demand of locals who are demanding CBI investigation.

However, PDP leaders, rejecting the demand for CBI probe said the investigation by Crime Branch under the High Court was going on right direction. The main opposition National Conference (NC), Congress and separatists have also criticized HEM and BJP for taking out processions with tri-colour in their hands in support of those involved in the crime.

The CB has recently filed a report in the High Court about the case.

The body of Asifa was recovered after a week in Kathua after she was raped and later killed. The CB has arrested a Special Police Officer (SPO) and two other police personnel in connection with the case. Locals under the banner of HEM are protesting almost daily demanding CBI probe.
