Srinagar, February 12: Militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) claimed responsibility for unsuccessful fidayeen attack on CRPF camp at Karan Nagar in Srinagar on Monday.

The LeT informed the local media that militant of the outfit were involved in the attack on the camp. A CRPF constable was killed in the fierce encounter which ensued after the fidayeen attack was foiled at Karan Nagar area in Srinagar. Encounter between militants holdup in a building near the CRPF camp and security forces was still going on.

The attack comes less than a week after militants staged an attack at SHMS hospital to free a LeT commander Naveed Jatt, a Pakistani resident, from police custody. Two policemen were injured in the attack.

Four accused, including two militants and as many Over Ground Workers (OGWs), involved in the conspiracy to free the militant, were arrested by security forces so far. A senior police officer recently in a press conference said that Jatt was freed by LeT to fill the vacuum created by the killing of top leadership of the outfit in encounters by security forces. “Jatt has the capability to lead LeT,” he had said.
