LG trying to impose ‘anti-people’ policy of Union government in Pondy: CPI (M)

Puducherry, December 22
Puducherry Unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today charged that the Lt.Governor is making efforts to impose the “anti-people”policies of the BJP government at the centre in Puducherry through the back door. In a statement here today, CPI (M) Secretary R Rajangam condemned the Lt.Governor for her compulsion to propagate cashless transactions in the Union Territory which allegedly spoil the livelihood of people in small business and open the door for multi-national institutions. Rajangam exhorted all sections of the people to unite and come forward to fight against the action of the Lt.Governor. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced demonetisation of higher value currencies stating that the move is to bring out the black money. However, now it was being insisted that people should switch over to cashless transactions. People all over the country are suffering a lot because of the demonetisation. Trade and commerce affected and people were rendered jobless. People are losing their lives in queues in banks and ATMs to withdraw their own money and the Prime Minister is thus harassing the people of this country, he alleged. The CPI(M) leader also said Chief minister V Narayanasamy had stated that the UT suffered a revenue loss to the tune of Rs.180 crore following the demonetisation. Without having concern about the sufferings of the people, the Lt.Governor is insisting that all the 12 lakh population should switch over to cashless transactions.
He charged that it is an act of ignoring the rights of the people by the Lt.Governor when she conducts officials meeting and issue orders to them when an elected government is functioning here.
Mr.Rajangam urged Mr Narayanasamy to convene a special session of the territorial assembly to discuss the issue.
