LMD imposes penalty of Rs 5 0500 on erring traders for violation of various provisions

A team of the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Samba today imposed fine of Rs 50500 on the erring traders including Stationary shops, Hardware store, Provisional stores, Restaurant, Sweet Shops, Karayana shops, for violation of various provisions of J&K Standard of weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011 and other prevailing Legal Metrology and Weights and Measures Laws.
During inspection, Stationary shops were also booked for selling the note books containing lesser number of pages as marked on the notebooks. On the assurance of the traders to rectify the discrepancies on the products as per applicable rules and not to repeat the same fault in future, all the challans were compounded by the department and penalty of Rs 50500 was imposed on them.
Besides this, the department directed all the traders to use only those weights and measures and weighing and measuring instruments for business transactions which have been duly verified and authenticated by the Legal Metrology Department and ensure that maximum retail price (MRP), date of packing (PKD), net contents and complete address of the Manufacturer/Packer and Customer care Number have been declared on the Commodities to be sold in package form. The Legal Metrology Department team headed by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba, Ajay Kumar Verma and Inspector Narinder Makhnotra conducted intensive checking of various business establishments at Samba, Vijaypur, Bari Brahmna, and adjoining areas during the current month.
