Expressing necessity of more Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains from Jammu to Udhampur, locals traveling regularly said that one train is not enough to cater to the rising influx of passengers, especially students.
The local passengers had requested the concerned authorities to add at least one more train for the convenience of the people traveling on daily basis.
Though Railway Minister accompanied by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti flagged off DMU train from Banihal-Baramullah and Baramullah-Budgam recently but as far as for the people of Jammu region the local passengers are facing great hardship.
After the start of a train to Katra in July last year, all four DMUs running between Pathankot and Udhampur via Jammu Tawi were extended to Katra along with an express train (Shri Shakti Express).
As maximum passengers come to Jammu to pay obeisance at Mata Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra, all four DMUs got overburdened, creating troubles for the daily passengers of the DMUs.
To add the problems, the authorities stopped one more DMU from Udhampur-Jammu in the first week of January, having departure time from Udhampur at 10.15 AM and from Jammu at 12.10 AM.
The students of Udhampur studying in Jammu, especially women are facing more problems due to heavy rush in DMU
BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Jammu-Poonch constituency, Jugal Kishore Sharma held a meeting with railway department some time back, demanding two more DMU but so far no action has been taken.
In the meeting, two DMU trains for Udhampur were approved.
Sharing their agony, the people of Manwal Station said that the train stopped by authorities was very much beneficial to them.
They said that often group of passengers traveling in DMU start playing cards at the cost of causing inconveniences to other passengers.
They also shout loudly while railway police passing through compartment keep mum and not stop them.
They demanded action against erring passengers causing trouble to others.
