Srinagar, April 30
BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav today met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at her residence here amid spiraling protests by students and alleged rift between the coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir.
Madhav, who arrived in this summer capital in the afternoon, went to Chief Minister’s Fairview residence on Gupkar road and held around half-an-hour meeting with Ms Mehbooba. However, the BJP National General Secretary refused to talk to media persons, who were waiting outside the CM’s residence.
The meeting between the two leaders holds significance and it comes at time when law and order is deteriorating in the valley and there are reports of rift between the coalition partners over statements by Madhav and state Industries Minister Chandra Prakash Ganga. The PDP top leadership is reportedly unhappy with Madhav’s comments complementing an Army officer, who tied a youth to the front of a jeep and used him as ‘human shield’ to evade stone pelting.
Meanwhile, Ganga drew criticism for calling use of bullets on protestors and stone pelters in the valley. He later expressed regret. PDP’s dramatic defeat in the Legislative Council elections at the hands of its coalition partner has also reportedly widened the rift between the two parties. The Mehbooba-led party is reportedly also unhappy with BJP for the stand taken by central government in the Supreme Court (SC) over talks with separatist leaders.
