Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Strikes Jammu and Kashmir

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale struck Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The quake struck 111 km north east of Thang in Jammu and Kashmir in the early morning hours. Tremors were also felt in the nearby areas. No damage has been reported from the area.

This comes just hours after an earthquake struck Uttarakhand on Wednesday evening. Strong tremors were felt in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday at 8:50 pm. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said earthquake tremors with magnitude 5.5 hit Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand, depth 30 km.

In Uttarakhand, tremors were felt in Champawat, Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Ramnagar, Tehri and Chamoli districts of the state.
