The AIDS Society of India (ASI) and People’s Health Organisation (PHO) has urged the government to make HIV a chronic and manageable condition in reality for every person living with the disease in the country. On the occasion of World AIDS day today, the ASI said, ”We have enough scientific evidence-backed tools, approaches and programmes to prevent HIV transmission, eliminate parent to child transmission of HIV, and help every person living with HIV in India lead a normal and healthy life.” Dr Ishwar Gilada, national president of ASI said as per the latest data available on Government of India’s NACO website, there were 86,000 new HIV infections in India in 2015 .
