The police in Mendhar sub division have arrested a man from Bhata Dhurian on the charges of providing logistic support and assisting militants in their movement in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
The arrested man has been identified as Yasir Arafat, a resident of Bhata Dhurian village.
He was arrested six days ago by a team of police while he was about to board a flight to Arab countries from Kathmandu in Nepal along with two other villagers.
“He has been arrested in a case under FIR 107/2021 that was registered under relevant sections of law in Gursai police station after an encounter took place in Nar Khas in which four army personnel were killed,” said official sources.
They said that a special investigation team of police was investigating the case and around ten villagers were detained for questioning.
“It has come to the fore in the investigation so far that many villagers of the area provided food and other logistics to militants who were present and moving in the area for some time,” said sources.
“Some villagers reportedly provided logistics support to militants in a state of fear and under pressure but Yasir Arafat has turned out to be the one who provided support voluntarily,” said official sources.
They said that besides providing logistic support to the militants, the accused Yasir Arafat also facilitated militants in providing communication support and remained a source of communication between militants and their handlers.
“The role of some other villagers is under suspicion and more arrests are likely,” said sources.
