At least seven policemen were killed and several others injured in a Maoist landmine blast in Chattarpur region of Jharkhand’s Palamau district on Wednesday evening.
“Seven policemen were killed and six others were injured in a Maoist laid land-mine blast at police vehicle in Palamu, Jharkhand. Search operations are underway,” said Director General of Police, D.K. Pandey.
The blast, which took place near Kalapahari area of the district, around 170 km from here, was so powerful that it was heard by people in nearby villages.
The explosion, suspected to have been triggered by CPI (Maoists) took place at around 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday evening when Maoists attacked a mini-bus carrying 12 police personnel. The police were returning to Hussainabad after conducting patrolling in the Maoist infested Kala Pahar region.
According to Inspector General (Operation) Ms Bhatia, the injured policemen have been admitted to Daltonganj hospital. A helicopter has also been sent to Daltonganj to bring the injured to Ranchi for better treatment.
